Work and Weeds

What do you need to allow weeds grow? Nothing.   They just grow. Especially when you are very comfortable and not paying much attention. maybe you even know they are growing, but end up laughing about it, fiddling and prancing a lazing away like the grasshopper.  This is the curse of Genesis 3. Cursed is the ground because of you. You will always toil. Isn't this the heart of the fallen world? Do nothing and you can be guaranteed that all goes to pot.  Can you imagine the world that Adam was given where he could work without weeds?  Without continual problems? That would be nice, but what would we do with a world like that in our own fallen state? Ruin it. Get lazy. Eat drink and be merry... Probably not. Good would be okay with that. We'd instead set fire to it.  Can any of us even imagine good, much less very good? Seems impossible. I am sure that is why evolutionis. is so appealing. With that worldview, this is as good as it gets. Don't have to deal with sin...

Jordan Peterson

I started following Jordan Peterson right at the beginning. I was very excited when I first encountered him. The man knew a lot of interesting things. Spiritual things. Things we have not been talking about in our culture but desperately need to.  And I, like most, thought he was a Christian. I mean after all, a man who can explain Bible stories with such insight, in a way that affects my life in a way that most preachers that I've heard throughout my life could not, has to be a Christian. I even remember hearing one of his lectures about the Bible he had mentioned that Jesus Christ was the model of the perfect man. No doubt a Christian, right? He is just talking about it indirectly, using scientific knowledge, specifically evolutionary biology, in order to reach a wider audience and appeal to their rationality and reason. Right?  But then it seems he always avoided the question about God. I remember him even answering that he thought it was a pointless question. I think he wa...

Fear and the Garden

I heard Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro talk on Ben's new show on The Daily Wire, and frankly, much of it was far too heady for me.  I don't know what to make out of Jordan Peterson anymore. I was initially excited about him, and saw the possibility of him becoming a strong Christian voice like CS Lewis. But instead of becoming another "most reluctant convert" I often see only reluctance. But that's another story for another blog post.  But he is interesting and certainly has a lot of very interesting and critical observations.  For instance, he pointed out that none of us can really not be afraid of things that frighten us, nor can we learn to eliminate fear. If fear is a helpful, and even vital response in many cases, it would then make no sense to eliminate fear. What Peterson says he does as a therapist (what therapy is about in many cases) is about confronting your fear so you can learn how to overcome it. That is, so you can learn to live your life and do th...

Just one more time

I am not high on vaccines or vaccine mandates.  Remember when we were told that the vaccine was effective, and it would stop the pandemic?  Remember when we were told that once you got the vaccine, you would be safe from COVID? Remember when they told us later that you could still get the virus, and maybe even still pass it on?  Remember when they said vaccine mandates were not American?  Remember when they said this whole pandemic started from a "wet market" in China, and that it was ludicrous to think that it came from a virology lab in Wuhan?  Remember when you said, "Trust the science."?  Remember when you believe that mutilating your normal body organs was not medicine?  Remember when you used to believe that anyone who did that for money is not really a doctor?  Remember when you believed that the human immune system was superior to anything man can or ever could make?  Remember when you believed that being healthy was a good way...
